BIRDS OF  A FEATHER

Mayfield East/Eastern Districts currently known as Easts Rugby Union Club was formed in 1941, in Mayfield East in the shadows of the BHP in Newcastle by the Father of two sons.

Dickie and Len Jeans , who tried to sign up with their local team but were told they didn't go to the right school and couldn't play.

Their father encouraged the brothers to gather as much friends and young boys they knew. The rest of the players were recruited from the children of 'Pommy Town' which was a few blocks of houses owned by the Lysaghts, who had bought out Families from the UK to help establish their steel works adjacent to the BHP.

Since this time the Club has filled Junior and Senior teams and maintained its working-class roots.

The Easts Rugby Union Club has always prided itself on being community based and family orientated and has always embraced the many cultures that abound in the local area.

Whilst we have always had many Indigenous members, we have also had many members who have heritages originating elsewhere, with player origins from NZ and Pacific Islands, Europe and Asia. In recent seasons we have welcomed our first wave of Kenyan players.

Easts Rugby is a friendly family orientated and a competitive club boasting a Proud and successful history, this year celebrating our 79th year (2019).

In this time the club has achieved many Minors and Major Premierships across all grades with its great tradition of nurturing boys and girls Rugby skills, establishing itself as one of the dominant established clubs in the NHRU.

Easts prides itself on its Cultural Diversity and endeavours to create a welcoming and encouraging environment for established players, supporters, sponsors especially those new to the game of Rugby.

We offer a great family foundation and a crazy fun atmosphere, where players come to be a part of the Sister/Brotherhood can grow as individual and a part of a team.

Time to start meeting team mates and coaches and have more fun this season!

Come be a part of the Phoenix Rising 2019!
